The Rainbow Literacy Programme, or ‘Rainbow Room’, came in to being in September 2010. Initially housed in a prefab, the programme grew rapidly. This necessitated the building of two new classrooms which were completed in November 2013.
From 14 children and 9 tutor volunteers in September 2010, the beginning of lockdown saw 61 children attending for 1 hour a week with 59 tutor volunteers.
The programme would not have survived without the dedicated assistance of hundreds of tutor volunteers over the past 10 years. A few of the original tutors still come in each and every week to assist those Gr 1’s that need a little extra help with phonics, vocab and reading.
Here’s to another 10 years!
